NOH8 Campaign Visits Illinois State University Campus
The NOH8 (pronounced as “no hate”) Campaign is a photographic silent protest that was created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley in response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature participants with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced and “NOH8” painted on one cheek to protest.
The founders of the NOH8 Campaign visited Illinois State University (which is just down the street from Heartland, where the conference will be held) just a couple of weeks ago. Participants from ISU and surrounding areas came to get their photo taken by Adam Bouska to show support for the cause.
I thought that this would be an interesting topic to blog about because the NOH8 Campaign has literally become viral mainly because of their enormous social media efforts. This started as a small project done from Adam’s apartment and turned into a huge international phenomenon.
I have included a few photos that I took at ISU’s NOH8 event. One is of me and Jennifer Carr (Jenn’s Twitter) and the other is of me and the photographer, Adam Bouska (Adam’s Twitter). It was an honor to be involved at the event and I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed the experience of being there!
If you are interested in learning more about the campaign and what it does, please visit their website: NOH8 Campaign. I would also recommend taking a look at their Twitter and Facebook page to look at how they interact with their supporters. They are an excellent example of open communication and participation at its finest. NOH8 Facebook NOH8 Twitter
