I have been involved with @Midwest since the first year and being a board member and a sponsor of @Midwest has been not only rewarding personally but professionally. As a board member it’s been amazing to see the event grow and flourish; every year just gets bigger and better. This year we had almost two hundred people in attendance who participated in twenty-two sessions over two days. Our talented speakers provided sessions on many topics ranging from social media basics in Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc… to more advance topics that help businesses get the most of their investments, build their brands and maximize their social media messages. There is something for everyone regardless of their comfort level with social media. That is what I love about this conference; everyone can walk away with something meaningful and useful that they can apply as soon as they get back to the office.
As one of the organizers of the event, one of my favorite things is to watch the #atMW hash tag on Twitter during the event and to see participants interact with each other and share what they are learning. I am sure I am not alone when I say that networking at an event like this is ONE of the greatest takeaways (and I stress ONE because there are so many). Every year I meet so many talented people and I am honored to be able to add them to my social media sites and as part of my professional network. I also enjoyed reading many of the blogs that participants wrote about the event and shared on their social media sites. The feedback from our participants is what helps us make the event better every year and we appreciate the time taken to provide that for us!
As a sponsor of the event, it has always been an award experience to offer space at Heartland Community College and have such great talent visit our campus. Being a sponsor of this event has been a great way to showcase our services and has allowed us to make new business contacts and grow our professional network year after year.
As we wrap up another successful year of @Midwest, I want to send out some special thanks. First to the speakers; without our speakers we wouldn’t have a conference. Our speakers travel from all over the U.S. to share their knowledge and expertise with us. They have such great passion for what they do and I have enjoyed getting to know them and learning from them over the years. Second, I would like to thank our participants. Over the past three years we have meet hundreds of new people that have attended the conference. Without your support we wouldn’t be able to put on such a great event. Your thirst for knowledge and willingness to learn new things is what drives us to put on this conference every year. We appreciate all your support and feedback! And last but certainly not least, I want to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and board members that work hard to put this event together every year. @Midwest is driven by volunteers within our community and without their dedication and support @Midwest would never have come to be. If you haven’t heard the story before, @Midwest came was created by a few people sitting around talking social media over coffee. They talked about a dream they had for this conference and I am honored to be a part of that dream and help make it a reality.
Thank you again to everyone that helped make this year such a great success! I hope to see you all again in 2014!
