ILLINOIS STATE UNIVERSITY IS ILLINOIS’ FIRST PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

Founded in 1857, Illinois State devotes their resources and energies to creating a supportive and productive campus community for all—students, faculty, staff, alumni, contributors, and visitors. Illinois State is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The campus is in the twin-city community of Bloomington-Normal near the geographic center of the state, 137 miles southwest of Chicago and 164 miles northeast of St. Louis. Interstates 74, 55, and 39; Route 150; and Illinois Route 9 intersect in Bloomington-Normal creating a transportation hub. An Amtrak passenger statin is just two blocks from the University.

Bloomington-Normal is a vibrant community home to 165,298 people who exemplify the values of the Midwest and a remarkable quality of life. It is located in the heart of Illinois at the junction of Interstates 55, 39, and 74–making getting here easy. We are just a few hours from Chicago and St. Louis. Bloomington-Normal boasts a bustling airport as well as frequent Amtrak service.

Bloomington-Normal is also growing into a technology mecca for the Midwest. With headquarters for State Farm Insurance, COUNTRY Financial, the Illinois Farm Bureau, and higher educational institutions like Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Heartland Community College, and Lincoln College-Normal, the community is filled with some of the most experienced professionals in the field. These professionals maintain a thriving business community invigorated by the Economic Development Council, McLean County Chamber of Commerce, and the Bloomington-Normal Visitor & Convention Bureau.
