INTERVIEW – MARCUS BAILEY METEOROLOGIST FOR WMBD/WYZZ

I am Marcus Bailey and I am a Meterologist for WMBD/WYZZ

How do you walk the talk re: social media?

Like most people, I use social media on a personal level by keeping in contact with many old friends and family.  It’s a great way to keep tabs on people that are important in your life on what they are up to.  Professionally, I use social media as another tool to help spread vital weather information.  Getting the word out in any way, shape or form during severe weather events only helps what we as meteorologist are trying to do; keeping people safe.

What one practical tip can you recommend regarding the use of social media?

Don’t over post things.  I have found in my business, that people want to know the meat & potatoes of what is going on.  Bombarding someones news feed can be somewhat counter productive.  We are in the business of informing people, and by posting too much it can be easy for someone to “disregard” some messages, essentially defeating the purpose of keeping people informed.

What do you think is the perfect age?

Still being considered a “young professional”, I feel like I’m at a pretty good age right now (30).  While I enjoyed a much more carefree lifestyle in my teens & early 20′s, I’m very much looking forward to whats down the line over the coming years.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Sweets.  If there is a plate full of sweets anywhere, you should hide them from me.

What are you really good at?

I like to think that I’m good at making people laugh.  I’m rarely in a “down” mood, and never really take life to seriously.  Laughing is always the ultimate “ice breaker” in any situation.

Name one thing you will never understand.

How ridiculously expensive weddings can be. (I’m knee deep in wedding planning.  Taking the plunge in Oct.)

Professionally…how devastating this severe weather season has been.  With all the tools & technology that we have in the weather world, there are still events where mass fatalities and injuries just can’t be avoided. For someone that joined this business to try and help this situation….it’s a very helpless feeling.

Share something on your mind lately

Wedding planning (see above), and what I will do with my Sundays if the NFL doesn’t have a season this fall.
